The disposable Smart Carbon Cup is designed to deliver accurate, reproducible and consistent cooling-curve data from molten metal, with very high carbon and silicon accuracy and a very high success rate. It guarantees electrical contact throughout the test, ensures complete solidification of white iron, improves process control, and produces uniform, repeatable cooling curves with a fast thermocouple response and excellent thermal insulation through its silica construction, across a wide pouring-temperature range. It can be used on hypo- and hyper-eutectic irons and on base iron before magnesium treatment. The Smart Carbon Cup–SG variant is for inoculated ductile (spheroidal graphite) iron, for determining carbon equivalent and %C after magnesium treatment.
