Vacuum Molding Process (V-Process)
Sinto America / Tinker Omega · SKU sinto-america-V-PROCESS
The V-Process creates a vacuum as a contoured thermoplastic sheet is deep-drawn over a properly prepared pattern, holding the shape of a binderless sand mold through pouring, cooling and shakeout. Process steps: 1) the pattern (with vent holes) is placed on a hollow carrier plate and a heater softens the plastic sheet; 2) the softened sheet is draped over the pattern using 200–400 mm Hg of vacuum drawn through the pattern's holes; 3) the flask is set over the film-covered pattern; 4) it is filled with dry, binderless sand, lightly vibration-compacted; 5) the sprue is formed and the mold surface leveled, with the back covered in unheated plastic sheet; 6) vacuum is applied to the flask, and atmospheric pressure hardens the sand; 7) the cope-drag assembly forms a plastic-lined cavity that stays under vacuum during pouring; 8) after cooling, the vacuum is released and the loose sand falls away, leaving a clean part free of sand lumps, with the sand cooled and reused.
